Catio Enclosures Litter Robot Catio Spaces

A healthy home supports clean air and good hygiene, promoting the wellbeing of both pets and their humans. As a feng shui consultant and a catio designer, I frequently notice unpleasant pet odors, especially from cat litter, during visits to my clients’ homes. In some households, the “daily toilet flush” (cleaning the litter box) often gets lost amid the busyness of life. When I visited the multi-cat household of my catio client, Allison, I was surprised and intrigued. There were no apparent cat odors?!

As a busy mom to eight cats, five dogs, and two kids, what was Allison’s secret to clean air at home? She has two Litter-Robot self-cleaning litter boxes, plus six regular open litter boxes (with an air purifier in each room to combat odors).

I asked Alison to share her experience with the Litter-Robot and the task of cleaning litter boxes.

1. Why did you want to try the Litter Robot?

I have eight cats, including six domestic shorthairs: Steve, Houdini, Diana, Cutie, Tigey, and Rose. I recently adopted two Maine Coons, Paris and Macaroon (Mac). With such a large feline family, I wanted to try the Litter-Robot because I have too many litter boxes to clean.

2. Where did you place the Litter Robot in your home?

I have two Litter-Robots in the kids’ rec room, conveniently located near family activities, since the cats love to hang out with my children and their friends. Because the litter is automatically scooped and stored in an enclosed bin, there are no litter odors in this space. I still have six regular open litter boxes located in the laundry room, bathrooms, and den, all equipped with air purifiers.

3. How have the cats adapted to the Litter Robot?

All of them use the Litter-Robot. The cats acclimated easily, including the newly adopted Maine Coons. I think they prefer using a fresh box all the time.

4. Any challenges to using the Litter Robot?

No challenges thus far. They easily went in on their own free will and use it every day. The largest cat weighs 15 pounds, and the smallest weighs 10 pounds. I’m not sure if the two Maine Coons will be able to continue using the Litter-Robot if they grow to weigh more than the 25-pound limit for the unit.

5. What’s your favorite feature of the Litter Robot?

My favorite feature is that it scoops itself, and it’s quiet. The litter bin is emptied twice a week, compared to once a day scooping for the regular litter boxes, so it saves me time. A real time-saver is that the kids will empty the Litter Robot container bag for me, but they won’t clean the regular litter boxes where they have to scoop.

6. How has your life changed since having the Litter Robot?

My life has changed for the better by having two fewer litter boxes to scoop daily. It’s heaven. My only wish is that I had 6 more!  One for each cat.

Whether you have a single or multiple cat household, daily cleaning of the litter box is essential to maintaining a healthy lifestyle for your feline family members.
